Do I have to pay library fines if I have been ill and away from the University for some time?

Please understand that the Library's fines system is developed to try and ensure fair and equal access to the Library's holdings but is not a way to punish people and make money. In some situations where there are mitigating circumstances (e.g. illness, bereavement), the charge for library fines is negotiable.
